Happy 2019, everybody!! 🎉🎉🎉 Congrats on getting through another year! 2018 was hard for me, but I grew a lot as a person. I survived the spring of my junior year, I visited colleges, I enrolled in the hardest classes I’ve ever taken, and I did college applications, but I also spent time with family, started this blog, and got into college!! Is it just me, or did 2018 feel really long?
Anyway, here are my goals for 2019!
First and foremost, I want to be easier on myself. It is so easy to put ourselves down when we screw up, but we grow from our mistakes! A failure is not a failure unless you give up. No matter how many times you slip backward on your path to success or even go back to the very beginning, persistence is key to attaining your goals.
Drink more water. It’s nearly impossible to drink too much water! It’s surprising how many problems can arise from not getting enough dihydrogen monoxide. 😉 (Yes, I’m a nerd.)
Stretch. I used to be so flexible when I did ballet and gymnastics, and I want to regain that flexibility. My goal is to be able to do the splits.
Donate money and volunteer. It’s always good to give back to your community!
Spend more time with my pets. I have a four-year-old Golden Retriever named Rookie and a fourteen-year-old Cavalier King Charles Spaniel named Cody. This year, I want to shower them with hugs and kisses!
Get a job. I don’t think it’s ever to early to start making your own money, whether it’s a lemonade stand or a full-time summer job.
Use more nontoxic brands. Chemicals are vegan (most of the time), but that doesn’t mean they’re good for us! For example, oxybenzone and octinoxate are commonly used in sunscreens but are extremely toxic. In the short term, it may prevent a sunburn, but it can cause damage over time! Follain has amazing nontoxic skincare, makeup, bath & body products, and hair care!
I want to explore the world. Each place is so different, and every new place I’ve visited has taught me something new. Going to Acadia National Park showed me the beauty of nature in its purest state. My trip to Thailand taught me how to love everyone and be patient with others. Everyone in Thailand is so friendly and polite! Going to Italy showed me the beauty of architecture and taught me about Catholicism.
I want to start complimenting others more. This will both spread positive energy and boost my mood. Complimenting others has been shown to help us see positive qualities in ourselves, thus increasing our self-worth. It is important to appreciate our personal qualities (self-advocacy, independence, generosity, empathy, etc.) as well as our physical appearance, so we must compliment those same characteristics in others. Remember that beauty comes in all shapes and sizes! It’s always good to practice self-love.
Remember that you don’t have to make a lot of New Year’s resolutions, and you don’t have to make any at all! Just take care of yourself, and enjoy 2019.
What was your favorite part of 2018, and what do you hope for in 2019?
